Is Walking Into Alchemy A Good Read For Health And Wellbeing?
Full many a glorious morning have I seen
Flatter the mountain tops with sovereign eye,
Kissing with golden face the meadows green,
Gilding pale streams with heavenly alchemy;
Anon permit the basest clouds to ride
With ugly rack on his celestial face,
And from the forlorn world his visage hide,
Stealing unseen to west with this disgrace:
Even so my sun one early morn did shine,
With all triumphant splendour on my brow;
But out, alack, he was but one hour mine,
The region cloud hath mask’d him from me now.
Yet him for this my love no whit disdaineth;
Suns of the world may stain when heaven’s sun staineth.
Sonnet 33 by William Shakespeare
We are more concerned with Mental Health and Wellbeing than we have ever been. Social Media pundits, teachers, professors, and policy makers are discussingit and trying to find solutions.
Amelia Marriette’s approach was a little different: she decided to walk the same route in the hills and mountains to find out if she could find a way to improve andenhance her own Mental Health and Wellbeing. Her idea began with her studies – it took root when she was studying Shakespeare and Tudor History. She learnt about alchemy – the idea that one could turn base metal into gold. But, when she began to walk, she realised that she had found something far more valuable than gaining material wealth, she had found the key to recoveringher Mental Health and Wellbeing.
Simply walking with attention and focus can work wonders. Intriguing, yes?
Walking Into Alchemy Can Change Your Perspective and help you to improve your Mental Health and Wellbeing
Amelia Marriette was made redundant and suffered from depression and anxiety for many months. Nothing helped her to feel better. But she took the first step towards regaining her Mental Health when her body said “MOVE – WALK” she listened.
Amelia found that walking regularly really does work, after three months of walking every week come rain or shine suddenly something changed.
“One bitter cold month in March; she was out for the scheduled weekly walk when she saw something glistening in the light: “Walking with my eyes cast down, I did not expect to see anything of real beauty, but the sight of a single bloom, a bright gold-yellow coltsfoot, transformed the moment and lifted my spirits.” - says Amelia. It was the day when she understood the meaning of alchemy.”
She walked for a year and at the end of that year she felt compelled to write her book.
